out with our friends

We're 3 couples, a Thai wife with a farang (foreign/western) husband with a couple of coincidental things in common: all the ladies are from around the same part of Thailand, we all live in a 8 mile radius.

I met one of the men through a student who introduced me after I said i was marrying a Thai lady.  The other couple I met in April, in Thailand, during my month long holiday that included the wedding ceremony.  But I knew these two couples already hung out and were a long way along the visa route.

After wanting to make sure my wife was not too lonely, I was keen to find people who she had commonality with, and perhaps she could talk to and go out with. My plan worked out well because I found two couples who were local, and two of the ladies were already acquainted.   I also discovered a network of Thai's living here, locally, shops and the like selling everything you could want.

I did my best to make the house as friendly as possible, putting up framed photos of family and a rather nice canvas of a local (Non-Wang) temple we both visited on several occasions.

Even so after the first week of bliss, she became homesick.  Having done the formative years 11-16 away from home, I know how it feels.  At least my family were close by, 200 miles or so. Hers are 6,000 miles so not easy to keep in touch, especially with 6 or 7 hour time difference.  I had made sure there was video connection for her to talk, and this has been a godsend in all ways.  Right now she's talking to family, her nephew, sister and mother. It's 1140 here and 1740 in Thailand.

She's here in the UK for 5 and a half months, after obtaining a hard earned tourist visa.  That's another story, which you'd think was a work of fiction  however I can assure you is entirely true.  At the end she's going back to Thailand and at this point i don't have any plans.  Money is now so tight, I don't think I can even go in December, which will mark a 3 month separation period with no definite end.  At the moment, there's 2 months left, so I don't wish to think too much about that.

So, yesterday was an outing to Bristol to a washed-out thai festival. The rain poured and the people stayed away.  We left to go get lunch, and never returned.  It was a waste of time and money however the time with friends was priceless.

After that we passed by the chinese supermarket at Eastville and the ladies purchased supplies, on the way to my home where we spent an enjoyable evening drinking, eating, chatting and the ladies did karaoke to thai songs on the tablet (wifi'd to the TV).

The Ladies are planning a trip to London, which I am sure they'll enjoy seeing as it will include shopping, but will damage the bank account further.
